When it comes to your home, we’re thrilled to be part of the process from start to finish. At CVP Windows & Doors, we understand that your home isn’t just a space—it’s your sanctuary. That’s why every project deserves the utmost care and attention. Whether you’re thinking about vinyl window replacements or new sliding patio doors, as both the manufacturer and installer, we’re here to make the experience seamless and exciting!

It all starts with a personalized free consultation with one of our CVP Window & Door consultants at your home. We’ll work to understand your goals and explain the options we can provide. Whether you want to focus on aesthetics, functionality, energy efficiency, or security (or maybe all of the above), this is the perfect time to lay it all out and explore how CVP can help.

In this article, we’ll guide you through what to expect during your free in-home consultation from start to finish, so you feel confident making the best choices for your home.

What Do I Get From a CVP Consultation?

During your consultation, here’s what you can expect:

Personalized window and door recommendations – See Photo Gallery.

Knowledgeable, industry-experienced professionals

Custom solutions tailored to your style and needs

Clear communication on the entire process

Confidence in choosing a manufacturer that handles everything

A customized project plan created just for you

Step 1: Initial Contact and Scheduling

Your free consultation starts when you reach out to us. Call Us Now: 757.887.3194 or submit a request online. We’ll set up a time for one of our consultants to visit your home and take a look at the space you want to improve.

After the appointment is scheduled, we’ll confirm the time and location through your preferred communication method (email or call/text). This helps us make sure everything goes smoothly from the very start.

Step 2: Free In-Home Consultation

When the CVP Window & Door consultant arrives, they’ll confirm your contact details and review the area you want to address. This is our opportunity to understand your goals, whether it’s replacing a rotted window, upgrading to energy-efficient patio doors, or enhancing a room with new windows or doors.

During the 30-60 minute consultation, we’ll discuss recommended solutions, explain the pros and cons, and take basic sizes and photos to provide an accurate estimate. All customers receive information on warranties, product features & benefits, and available financing options.

By the end of the appointment, you and the consultant will review the initial CVP process and next action steps . Before leaving, the consultant will schedule a follow-up appointment to review your customized quote.

Step 3: Review the Quote

This step is crucial, as CVP ensures that customers feel confident and fully understand their estimate before making a decision. The scheduled quote review can take place either at your home or at our Newport News, VA plant (where you can also take a tour if you’re interested!). During this appointment, the itemized quote will break down each cost, confirm the products you’ve selected, and outline the labor required to complete your project. This is a time to review the scope of work and discuss any concerns, revisions or further education about our custom window replacement and installation process.

At this stage, CVP will answer any questions you may have and ensure that the quote aligns with the goals and details discussed during your initial consultation. Our priority is to make sure you feel completely confident and comfortable before moving forward with your project.

Step 4: Finalizing the Agreement & Payment Options

After reviewing the quote, we understand you may need time to consider your options, and that’s perfectly fine, the quote is valid for a minimum of 30 days. Your CVP window and door consultant will routinely follow-up and be readily available to answer any questions that may arise as you evaluate your decision.

Once you’re ready to move forward, CVP will arrange a meeting to finalize and sign the installed sales agreement. If you need any revisions, we can accommodate adjustments as necessary. Our team is always here to assist, and you’re welcome to reach out to either your consultant directly or our main office for support.

Agreement and Payment Process

After we review the agreement together and collect your signature, CVP will process your deposit. Payment options include check, cash, or credit card. We also offer flexible financing plans with no-payment-upfront, and for those who qualify, 0% financing is available. If you’re eligible, our billing department will guide you through the financing setup.

Additionally, CVP provides various discounts, such as savings for customers paying by cash or check, and special discounts for teachers, military personnel, and first responders.

Step 5: Precise Measurements for Production & Installation

After signing the contract and submitting your deposit, our installation manager will visit your home to take the final, precise measurements. Since CVP manufactures your custom vinyl windows and sliding patio doors, these measurements are essential to ensure your new products are a perfect fit for your property.

During this visit, the installation manager will explain the installation process in detail, sharing their expertise to ensure you’re confident about the next steps. Clear communication is at the heart of our service, and we take pride in keeping customers well-informed about what to expect.

After finalizing the measurements, the installation manager will provide an estimated installation time frame. Once production is completed, we will promptly arrange for the installation of your custom windows and/or doors.

For decades, our passion for crafting superior windows and doors has been the core of CVP Windows & Doors. This passion drives us to innovate and set the benchmark in the industry, making us a leader in the field and, ultimately, the premier choice for custom windows and doors in Southeast Virginia, including Hampton Roads, Peninsula, and surrounding areas.

When it comes to enhancing your home with new windows and doors, choosing the right company is as important as selecting the right products.

Five Reasons To Choose CVP

1. Direct from the manufacturer.

At CVP, we take pride in offering high-quality products like custom vinyl windows, replacement sliding glass doors, new construction window and door systems, and restoration series windows at competitive prices because you’re buying directly from us—the manufacturer. This unique aspect means you get unparalleled value and quality without the markup commonly associated with middlemen.

2. Locally owned and operated in Newport News, Virginia.

Not only are we locally owned and operated, with both owners deeply involved in everyday operations, but we also bring over 100 years of combined industry experience to the table. Founded in 2001, our production facility and showroom are located right in Newport News, VA. We offer showroom and plant tours by appointment because we believe in an honest and open approach to business, and your money truly stays within the local economy. Please contact us for more information on scheduling your appointment.

3. Made in USA

Every piece of our products, from raw materials to finished goods, is sourced and manufactured in the USA. By choosing CVP, you’re getting top-notch quality for your window installation or entry door replacement and contributing to the American economy.

4. One Team, start to finish.

At Custom Vinyl Products, we manage the entire process, beginning with the consultation with an in-house window and door expert. Homeowners will always work with a CVP employee, no subcontractors. Homeowners can feel confident with a dependable team of professionals, from the CVP from the first meeting to the installation. This means a consistent, quality experience for all our customers.

“We could not have asked for more from a window company,” says Janelle W from the Newport News area.

“We ordered twenty (20) custom windows because we wanted the best energy-efficiency windows on the market and for them to fit correctly, and everything went flawlessly. The installation was a pleasant experience due to the professionalism of the team leader and the expertise of the crew. “

CVP’s tailored service focuses on problem-solving and education for our customers to determine the best options. Whether the concern is functionality, aesthetics, energy efficiency, or budget, we approach every project with quality care in mind. This focus is an integral part of our process, one of several that set us apart from similar businesses. We look forward to working with each customer to see what works best for your space while offering education on the variety of options available.

“The windows are easy to use,” Janelle goes on, “and have brightened our home inside and out and have made the house quieter. Each room has a sense of stillness, and I am sure we will have many enjoyable years of maintenance-free windows. When finished, the crew picked to clean the area, vacuumed around the windows, and cleaned the windows of smudges and fingerprints.”

Our mission is simple yet powerful: we build with your design in mind. Whether you’re aiming for a modern aesthetic, a traditional feel, or something uniquely you, our vast selection of custom vinyl replacement windows and doors means there’s no limit to what we can achieve together.

See more real stories from CVP customers here.

5. We give back.

At CVP, the value of community and compassion underscores every action we take. Giving back isn’t just something we say; it’s deeply ingrained in who we are. Our ongoing partnerships with Habitat for Humanity and the Grove Christian Outreach Center continue growing because we believe in strengthening communities through direct action.

We build and provide all windows and exterior doors to the Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Habitat for Humanity. Building CVP windows and doors for Habitat gives us an opportunity to engage with and impact the community we call home too. We actively encourage our team members to participate in volunteer activities with their time and added “sweat equity” to Habitat builds. In addition to scheduled projects, if an order is canceled or unused, we donate it to The Re-Store.

Our community contributions go beyond CVP windows and doors. We are avid donors to the Grove Christian Outreach Center’s Food Pantry and Clothing Closet, donating nonperishable dry and canned goods, clothing, and our time. This mindset forms the bedrock of our company culture, reinforcing our belief that by contributing to the welfare of our communities, we create a better world for everyone.

Choosing CVP means investing in your home’s future with a company that values quality, integrity, and community engagement.

Is the high heat and humidity in Coastal Virginia making your patio or screened-in porch unbearable? Vinyl windows and sliding patio doors offer an affordable solution! If you’re ready to start planning your project, we have tips for choosing the best windows and finding an installation contractor with sunroom conversion expertise.

1) Choose Energy Star®-Rated Sunroom Windows for Comfort and Energy Efficiency

Sunroom windows and patio doors should allow natural light in, while keeping the heat of the sun out. A good way to accomplish this is by choosing windows with a heat-reflecting, Low-E coating and a double-pane glass unit that is insulated with Argon gas.

At minimum, sunroom windows should carry an Energy Star® rating for energy efficiency. That’s the government standard, however affordable windows are available that exceed these standards. If your sunroom gets a lot of direct sunlight, you can prevent heat gain by choosing a window that is designed with a more energy-efficient SHGC (solar heat gain coefficient) rating. Ask your window supplier about these options.

2) Use Vinyl Windows to Keep Your Sunroom Conversion Affordable and Low-Maintenance

Vinyl is a great material for windows used in a sunroom for a few reasons. First, it’s very affordable compared to other options, as well as being versatile. Vinyl does an excellent job of resisting humidity, making it an energy efficient option that requires very little maintenance.

Kick back and enjoy the ease of a sunroom that’s built to last and easy to care for.

3) Customize Your Sunroom with Different Window & Door Styles

Picture Windows: If you’re looking to improve your view, picture windows are a great option for your sunroom. These large windows will frame your surrounding scenery like a picture frame. Since picture windows are non-operational, they create a clean look without any visible hardware or moving parts.

Double-Hung Windows: Another great option are double-hung windows. These windows open vertically and give you the option to increase ventilation in your sunroom. They are also very easy to clean, because both sashes (framed window glass) can be tilted inwards, letting you clean the exterior of the window without going outside.

Casement Windows: With a hinge on one side, casement windows swing outward and are operable with a hand crank. Like picture windows, they offer a clean look because they are built with a single sash of glass. But they have the added benefit of being opened and closed.

Slider Windows: For wide horizontal openings, slider windows are a great way to maximize your view while also having the ability to open the window.

Sliding glass doors and full-length fixed glass panels provide a full floor-to-ceiling view that is fully customizable for your sunroom. When the weather is nice, open up your patio doors to make your sunroom an open-air venue for eating and entertaining.

Listen as Josh & Dana, homeowners in Yorktown, discuss their experience with CVP Windows & Doors for a room addition and porch enclosure.

4) Get Estimates from Experienced Sunroom Enclosure Companies

You probably still have a lot of questions about converting your patio or sunroom with vinyl windows. Get estimates from several sunroom enclosure companies and choose the one that’s right for you. Take your time and don’t feel pressured into making a quick decision.

If you have an existing sunroom or screened porch that needs windows, a replacement window company like CVP Windows & Doors can help.

If you want a sunroom addition, you’ll need to hire a reputable building contractor.

As a custom manufacturer of high-quality vinyl windows and sliding glass doors, CVP Windows & Doors specializes in a wide range of design options and configurations. Our team can build and install windows and doors in the right sizes and styles to help you achieve your vision of the perfect enclosed sunroom.

You may be wondering if replacement windows can make your home quieter. It’s something we get asked about, especially from homeowners living near military bases, airports, railroads, and freeways. The short answer is yes, window replacement in Hampton can make your home quieter, but first we need to explain a little of the science behind acoustic testing.

Windows, doors and other building materials are tested for sound absorption and given an STC rating. STC stands for Sound Transmission Class and it measures how well a material reduces outdoor to indoor noise. It’s important to understand that different noises have different sound frequencies. STC rating measures sounds in average frequencies and decibels, for example, a normal speech volume. But it doesn’t necessarily tell you how well it will block out a specific sound that’s bothering you – like the garage band next door.

Still, when you’re shopping for replacement windows, the STC rating is an objective measure you can use to compare different window systems and building materials. A higher number indicates that the window is better at blocking sound. Most single-pane windows carry an STC rating between 18 – 25. In comparison, double-pane windows range from 25 – 35. To give you a point of comparison, a typical exterior wall has an STC rating of 35- 45.

At CVP, our standard double hung windows carry an STC rating from 28-30. We achieve this STC rating based on a standard glass unit consisting of two panes of ⅛” glass separated by a ½” argon filled air pocket. Many homeowners comment on how their homes are noticeably quieter after we install our standard replacement windows.

This window profile accommodates a thicker 1” glass unit consisting of a 3/16” pane of exterior glass, a ¼” laminated interior pane, and a wider 9/16” argon filled air pocket. This noise reduction solution has been proven in a number of private homes and multi-family developments along busy highways and near airfields throughout Hampton Roads.

In the same way a nutrition label can help you decide which foods to eat, the energy performance label can help you find the best option among several replacement window types and manufacturers.

Finding the Best Window Energy Performance Ratings

Before you place an order for new replacement windows, take a look at the Energy Performance Label.

1. Look for the ENERGY STAR logo

The ENERGY STAR logo means that the window meets U.S. governmental standards for energy efficiency in your region. Buying ENERGY STAR windows will save you money and protect the environment by cutting back on wasted energy.

In order to be ENERGY STAR certified, the window system must be independently tested, certified, and verified by the National Fenestration Rating Council, or NFRC for short.

The ENERGY STAR logo indicates high window efficiency ratings. But, that’s just the beginning. Window performance varies widely depending on materials used, construction, and window type. To truly understand these differences, you need the window energy ratings on the NFRC label.

2. Check out the Energy Performance Ratings

The U-Factor Rating indicates how well the window will insulate your home and prevent heat from escaping. The lower the number, the better the performance.

For reference, the ENERGY STAR recommended range is between 0.25 and 1.25. Our CVP Double-Hung DH55 window with LowE 366, argon-filled glass carries a U-Factor of 0.30.

The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient indicates how well the window resists heat from the sun. The lower the number, the better the window is able to block radiant heat. In our hot, humid Coastal Virginia climate, a low SHGC is important to keep your home cool.

For reference, the ENERGY STAR recommended range is 0.25 – 0.80. Our CVP Double-Hung DH55 window with LowE 366, argon-filled glass carries an SHGC of 0.19.

3. Understand the Additional Performance Ratings

The Visible Transmittance rating indicates how much visible light passes through the window glass (or glazing). For reference, the ENERGY STAR average range is 0.20 – 0.80. Our CVP Double-Hung DH55 window with LowE 366 glass is well within range with a Visual Transmittance of 0.48.

Air Leakage indicates how much air passes through the joints of the windows. For reference, the industry standard recommended by ENERGY STAR is 0.3 cf·m/ft². All CVP windows meet or exceed this standard.

Now, don’t overlook the installation…

Buying the best windows won’t guarantee that you’ll achieve a more beautiful, comfortable, and energy-efficient home. To see those benefits, your windows also need to be properly installed.

Have you checked the condition of your windows lately? If your house is less than 15 years old, chances are the answer is “no.” But over time, windows start to show the signs of age. That’s when persistent problems like rotting wood, broken hardware, drafts, or seal failure show up and raise the question: “Should I replace my windows?”

Why Replace Your Windows?

If you’re looking at aging windows, you have two choices: fix ‘em or replace ‘em. It’s a decision that depends on how severe your window issues are, the money you have to spend, and how long you plan to live in the home. Most people want an easy fix. However, there are at least five reasons why replacing your windows is a better long-term option.

Reason to Replace #1: Repair Rotting Wood

Until the 1990s, most homes in our area were built with wood windows. Unfortunately, in our hot and humid climate, wood windows rot and decay. When the window’s protective finish of paint or stain wears away, water seeps through to the underlying wood. This moisture creates an environment for mold to grow, which eventually leads to structural damage. If left untreated, this damage will spread and get worse.

If your existing windows are rotting, your most efficient solution is to replace them with maintenance-free vinyl replacement windows. Because vinyl windows are made from polyvinyl chloride (uPVC), they are unaffected by moisture and fluctuating temperatures. You’ll never need to paint or seal them, plus your home will look great for years to come!

Reason to Replace #2: Fix Foggy Windows

If you’re noticing fog between the glass in your windows, seal failure may be to blame. Multiple pane windows have an insulated glass unit, or IGU. The IGU gives the window its insulating properties by maintaining a pocket of air between two panes of sealed glass. If your window is foggy, chances are that the seal in the IGU has failed. And, when that happens, moisture gets trapped between the glass.

An IGU with a broken seal can’t be fixed. It needs to be replaced. You can either replace the windows in Hampton or you can hire a glass technician to replace the IGU in your existing window. As you weigh your options, consider the age and condition of your window frames. Are they worth salvaging? Sometimes, replacing the whole window is a more cost-effective option.

Seal failure is the most common cause of permanently foggy, cloudy windows.

Wood rot gets worse over time. Take action to prevent structural damage!

Reason to Replace #3: Be Rid of Broken Hardware

Are your windows difficult to open? Or worse, a safety hazard? In a double or single hung window, a component called a “balance system” keeps tension on the window sashes to hold them in place as you raise them. If you can’t raise the window or it won’t stay open, your balance system may be broken. Other components that can break include locks, cranks, and latches.

If you have broken hardware, contact the manufacturer for replacement parts. Newer windows may still be under warranty. Unfortunately, parts are very hard to come by for older windows and repairing is usually not possible. In that case, replacement windows are the best option. They’ll be safer and easier to operate, plus you’ll have the added benefit of increased energy efficiency.

Reason to Replace #4: Cost Savings Through Energy Efficiency

Window technology has come a long way in the last 15 years. Today’s windows are stronger, quieter, and much more energy efficient than previous generations. If you replace drafty, single-pane windows with Energy Star®’s rated vinyl replacement windows, you can save up to 31% a year off of heating and cooling costs. It’s a simple way to cut your energy usage and make a positive impact on the environment!

Reason to Replace #5: Love Your Home Even More

New vinyl replacement windows improve the value, performance, comfort, and beauty of your home. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much quieter your home can be, especially if you live near an airport or military base. You’ll also appreciate a more consistent ambient temperature as your windows insulate your home from the elements and block solar heat gain.

With hundreds of design options, replacement windows can dramatically enhance the appearance of your home. Match the style you have or go for an entirely new look! With different window styles, grid patterns, vinyl colors, and shapes, the possibilities are endless.

If you’re thinking about replacement windows in Hampton, you may be surprised to learn that “new construction” windows are an option. We build windows for “new construction” and typical replacement (or retrofit) applications.

In this article, we discuss the differences between replacement windows vs new construction windows to help you decide what is right for your older home.

New Construction Windows vs. Replacement Windows: What’s the Difference?

The difference between a new construction window and a replacement window is easy to spot. Look for the nail fin – a thin, flat vinyl edge around the perimeter of the window with evenly spaced holes. New construction windows include this design feature, also called “nailing flange.” Replacement windows do not.

During a new construction project or building addition, windows are installed before the siding and trim. The nail fin makes it possible for vinyl windows to be set into the rough opening, sills are flashed, caulked behind the nail fin, and the window is nailed directly to the sheathing. Once secure, the nail fin is taped, providing a secure, watertight seal.

Our CVP high-performance vinyl windows are available either with or without nail fin, suitable for new construction or replacement window applications.

When “New Construction” Replacement Windows Make Sense

It sounds like a misnomer, but “new construction” windows can be used as replacement windows in an older home. Remember, with this method, your trim and siding will be removed to expose the rough opening. If inside trim is involved, this can be a more invasive and costly option. However, it can be the right choice under certain conditions.

Choosing windows for new construction or replacement windows in new construction can be a challenging task, but our window specialists can help you assess the condition of your home. We often recommend “new construction” replacement windows in these situations:

Your windows are leaking: A “new construction” installation removes damaged materials and restores the moisture barrier to your window openings.

Your home has aluminum windows and vinyl siding

You plan to replace your siding along with the windows

We do not recommend “new construction” windows for homes with brick, stucco, or aluminum siding.
